Buying a juicer can seem overwhelming, especially with some of the high-end brands often costing upwards of $500+, but there are a number of budget products on the market that sell for as little as $50+, and we've been testing juicers since 2021. In our latest round of reviews, we juiced a variety of produce, including fibrous apples and leafy kale.
But which juicer is right for you? There's a lot of marketing to consider when shopping around, especially with so many juicer manufacturers claiming health and wellness features. In our test, we focused on performance, design and taste. (After all, nobody wants a bitter, astringent juice).
One term you'll want to know when researching the best juicers is centrifugal juicers and masticating juicers - also known as cold-press juicers. These two types of juicer are very different products. The juicers we recommend come in a range of prices and styles and can handle any type of produce. HOW WE TEST?
Carrot Juice Test: We challenged these models to handle hard, dense produce by juicing two pounds of carrots. We recorded the time it took each machine to finish juicing carrots and then analysed the juice yield and remaining pulp.
We measured juice temperature using an instantaneous reading thermometer to assess taste and texture characteristics. We sealed the juice in an airtight container and refrigerated it overnight, then checked the juice the next day for separation or oxidation.
Apple Juice Test: To evaluate the machine's performance when processing fruits and vegetables with high moisture content and rapid oxidation, we applied the previous method to apples.
To determine the final temperature, weight, texture and quality of the juice, we analysed samples produced by each model after being left overnight.
Kale and ginger tests: We made kale and ginger juice to test how well the juicers handled fibrous vegetables.

USER EXPERIENCE AND CLEANING: Performance testing included documenting the user experience, design quality, ease of cleaning and noise levels.
No doubt about it: Centrifugal juicers were faster than masticating juicers. For example, the Breville JE98XL squeezed 12 ounces of carrot juice in 26 seconds; it took theNama J2 Cold Press Juicer over two minutes to complete the same job. But speed didn't translate to consistently better quality (or quantity!). The two aforementioned juices tasted exactly the same, and both had minimal froth and pulp. So instead of speed, we favored juicers that produced bright-colored juice and lots of totally dry pulp without chunks of produce (that was a clear indicator that all of the available juice had been extracted).

What is cold pressed juice?
Cold-pressed juice is juice extracted using a hydraulic press or slow masticating juicer that applies pressure to fruits and vegetables without generating heat. Unlike traditional centrifugal juicers that use high-speed blades, cold-press juicing preserves more nutrients, enzymes, and natural flavors because it doesn’t expose the ingredients to oxidation or heat, which can degrade their nutritional value.
How do you clean a juicer?
Some juicers have dishwasher-safe parts, but if you clean your juicer as soon as you're done using it, all you need is warm water and a soapy sponge.
Is it possible to substitute a juicer by utilizing a blender to extract juice?
The combination of a blender and a fine mesh strainer helps obtain juice but requires more effort. Blender processing yields significantly less juice compared to a juicer while also producing a messier output that takes longer and retains more pulp residues.
Can we buy a used juicer?
For the most part you can, you just need to make sure that the original invoice for the juicer exists and that the juicer is under warranty so that even if there is a quality problem, you can ask for a manufacturer's warranty or a new one.
